In order to help the students of French at GCHSS to bond and to get know each other better while fostering a collaborative spirit among students and teachers, the French department organises an activity during the first term of each scholastic year.
This November, the French Department invited Ms Josephine Zammit, ex-teacher of French at GCHSS, to take a group of students and teachers of French on a guided tour around Valletta. The aim of this tour was to trace the French influence in the capital city. Apart from Upper Barrakka Gardens, the group also visited important buildings and monuments such as the New Parliament, the Auberge de Castille, Palazzo Parisio, St John’s Co-Cathedral and the Palace of the Grand Masters. The group also tasted some authentic French food such as croissants, pains au chocolat and crêpes . At the end of the tour, the group attended the Malta Book Festival at the Mediterranean Conference Centre. The group visited the stand sponsored by the French Embassy in Malta and a good number of students availed themselves of the 3 Euro voucher distributed by the National Book Council representatives to buy French books from the bookshop “La Boucherie”. The association Biblionef donated around 50 French books to the GCHSS school library.
All in all this has been yet another interesting activity that has been enjoyed by students and teachers alike.
