Enrichment Activities

At GCHSS, we believe in providing a holistic education that goes beyond traditional academic subjects. In addition to the academic subjects on offer, we also offer a wide range of enrichment activities designed to enhance the overall educational experience for our students.  Some of these activities are not just recreational but are also accredited at MQF Level 3, ensuring that students gain valuable skills and qualifications beyond the classroom.

The complete list of enrichment activities for the upcoming scholastic year will be made available at the start of the school year. The following is a list of opportunities that were recently offered at our school.

This club welcomes all individuals interested in the Spanish language, Hispanic cultures and films. Each week, a Spanish film, possibly with Spanish subtitles, is screened. Subtitles in English are available on request and a teacher of Spanish is available for assistance. The selected films are high-quality Spanish or Spanish-American productions directed by renowned filmmakers, and that vary in genres. Most have been nominated for, or have received prestigious awards. The school is grateful to the Spanish Embassy for kindly lending some of these films.

This club is highly recommended for students of Spanish. The club not only provides a unique opportunity for students to practice their language skills, but also exposes them to Hispanic cinematography which is a topic examined by MATSEC.

The Department of German has been running the German Club for the last three years. Students are encouraged to participate in activities that deviate from what is normally done during lessons.

The club offers students to the opportunity to watch films in German, engage in board games, and discuss German songs and singers. Special mention should be given to the biennial PASCH Project Talk ohne Grenzen. Since students will be performing the talk show in Hamburg in April, they will be concentrating on Talk ohne Grenzen 2025 over the next scholastic year.

The German Club is also preparing to start a podcast. GCHSS students are invited to join the German Club where learning the language is fun.

The Creative Events Development Initiative offers a platform for students to actively participate in the organization of events for both the school community and the general public. This hands-on experience allows students to navigate the entire event planning process, from concept to execution.

Participation in this initiative equips students with valuable skills such as interpreting Gantt charts, implementing effective social media marketing strategies, developing innovative and entrepreneurial activities, and contributing to the development of after-hours programmes. The initiative encompasses key roles in coordination, marketing, and communication, thus fostering a comprehensive understanding of event management.

Previous events organized under this initiative include exhibition hopping, drawing workshops in support of the food bank, and tabletop games activities aimed at promoting inclusivity within the community.

This programme provides students with a hands-on experience that bridges the gap between the theoretical and practical implications of business. In this programme, students learn how to develop a business idea from concept to reality and discover first-hand how a companyfunctions. Student participants electa board of directors from amongst their peers, raise share capital, and market and finance a product or service of their own choice. This programme is delivered in conjunction with JAYE Malta.

This enrichment activity is accredited at MQF Level 3.

At the Philosophy Club, students embark on a journey of intellectual exploration guided by the words of Mikhail Bakhtin: Truth is not born nor is it to be found inside the head of an individual person, it is born between people collectively searching for truth, in the process of their dialogic interaction.

The Philosophy Club provides students with the opportunity to embrace the power of collective inquiry, fostering an environment where they engage in thought-provoking discussions. Students prepare presentations, engage in debates, and relate discussions to current events.  The club’s commitment to open-mindedness and critical thinking encourages students to challenge ideas, broaden their perspectives, and develop strong communication skills. GCHSS students are invited to join the Philosophy Club and form part of a community passionate about the shared pursuit of truth, where dialogue is the key to unlock new dimensions of understanding.
