Othello Outing by the English Department

Last Friday the 13th May, English teachers together with approximately 140 students watched the play of Othello by William Shakespeare at the Manoel Theatre. It was interesting to note that this version of the play was set in a modern-day environment even though it remained true to the original text.

After the two and a half hour performance, it was evident that the students watched the play with a critical eye as they discussed the unexpected twists in this modern version together with their teachers. Discussions continued during the lessons this week and it was evident that their meticulous observations were accurate, and many agreed with each other.

Overall, we all enjoyed this opportunity to visit the Manoel Theatre in Valletta and watch the play we have been teaching throughout the year. Those who believe in the superstition of Friday the 13th were disappointed as thankfully nothing unpleasant occurred!
