She was welcomed by the Head of School Mr Gaetano Calleja, the president of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Carlos Zarb and Michaela Vassallo a member of the SRC. The students showed the President posters on various injustices experienced by girls around the world, as well as messages to empower girls.

Michaela spoke about her learning experience as a member of the SRC and encouraged other girls to work for a better future for women.  A number of students voiced their concerns about a number of challenges faced by females such as arranged marriages, violence, lack of education and genital female mutilation.

In a short speech, H. E. the president spoke about the importance of showing solidarity with girls around the world. She highlighted the advancement of women in the Maltese society but remarked that the number of women in parliament and in top jobs is still low. She encouraged the young people participating in the activity to get into politics and decision making positions.
