Life on Campus
Post-secondary education presents a whole lot of new experiences, from studying new subjects in a new environment, to meeting new people, making new friends and managing your own time. The GCHSS campus is a hub of activity rich in things to do in a formal and informal setting.
In addition to welcoming students at the school, the GCHSS Chaplaincy offers students the opportunity to participate in extracurricular events and meetings that are organised monthly.
The mission of this group, Be the Light, is to explore how we can embody Jesus’ teachings and the Faith in a positive youthful way amongst all those around us. Through these meetings and activities, members are empowered to strengthen their relationship with each other and with God. Consequently, students will gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their capabilities, and how to pursue their true calling in life.
Students interested in joining this group are to contact the GCHSS Chaplaincy.
The GCHSS Drama Troupe is a platform to explore, develop and organise theatre and performance activities within a safe and supportive environment. In line with the school ethos of providing a holistic education to students, the Drama Troupe provides added value to the educational experience at Higher Secondary through formal and non-formal learning.
The Drama Troupe produces activities such as Drama Day and the GCHSS Soirée. It also collaborates with other subject departments to organise educational drama activities intended to enhance learning experiences in specific subjects.
Students interested in the Drama Troupe are to contact teachers from the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies.
GCHSS is an Erasmus+ accredited institution that has been awarded funds to enable students to travel abroad to various partner countries within the Erasmus+ network. Such mobilities enhance student experiences in terms of intercultural awareness and adaptability, better understanding of different educational experiences and a wider network of peers in different countries.
The horticulture field was set up by the Biology Department with the indispensable help of ancillary staff in order to provide Biology students with resources needed for their coursework. It has since grown and become a living laboratory, and a place where students and staff members, who have nature and agriculture at heart, can meet, learn about plant biology in an informal setting, lend a hand with growing and harvesting crops and offer suggestions. Students are given the opportunity to develop skills in horticulture, gardening, and landscaping, as well as life-long social skills such as teamwork, responsibility and ownership.
Students interested in gardening and horticulture are to contact teachers from the Department of Biology.
The PlaKard Project organises music sessions covering a mixture of genres. This project is based on the philosophy that everyone can be a musician, and encourages students to practice and take the initiative with different musical styles and rhythms. Not everybody may be musically gifted, but those who would like to try it out are given a chance! Jamming sessions are held frequently during break in various spots on campus.
Students interested in participating in the PlaKard Project and jamming sessions are to contact the GCHSS chaplaincy.
The Department of Physical Education offers students the use of two gymnasia for volleyball, basketball, badminton, handball, rounders and dodgeball.

These facilities are open for students for use during break or free lessons. During break time, the department organises football, basketball, volleyball and table-tennis leagues. It is also possible to use the facilities for dance practice.
Students interested in sports and fitness are to contact teachers from the Department of Physical Education.
In line with the National Curriculum Framework, GCHSS strives to equip students with the plethora of 21st Century skills that employers expect from their workforce. Concurrently with the ability to achieve academic qualifications, GCHSS is offering the possibility to students to develop life skills to help them adjust to an ever-changing environment in a non-formal manner.
Students are given the opportunity to hone their soft skills such as creativity, leadership, motivation, teamwork and communication through a number of programmes. Applications for these courses will open during the first few days of the scholastic year.
Some of these activities are accredited at MQF Level 3 (equivalent to a SEC/O Level). More information regarding these activities, and a list of what was offered in recent years, can be found here.
